Voters in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, a traditionally conservative area, cast their ballots in favor of Republican Donald Trump in the U.S. election, securing him one electoral vote.
This win reinforces Trump’s support in the district, which has historically leaned Republican in presidential races.
Maine, along with Nebraska, is one of only two states that allocates electoral votes by congressional district rather than using a winner-takes-all system. In Maine, two electoral votes go to the statewide winner, while each congressional district, including the 2nd District, awards one additional vote.
The Associated Press officially declared Trump the winner of the district at 1:51 a.m. EST.
