The Union will never accept the invitation of Professor Wale Omole to the programme” a student identified as Ife Babatimehin, the Secretary General of the institution Student Union stated.
The Public Relations Officer of Campus Journalists in Obafemi Awolowo University, David Ogunlade, confirmed the development to SaharaReporters.
“Yes, Professor Wale Omole was invited and the union protested against his invite. He failed to show up instead sending a representative”. It was stated.
Professor Wale Omole was the Vice Chancellor at the helms of the affairs when George Iwilade, a former SUG top official, popularly known as Afrika was killed by cultists in 1999.
Afrika was killed on July 10, 1999.
George was a 21-year-old 400-Level law student and the then Secretary-General of the Students Union, George Iwilade, before his death.Others killed were; Eviano Ekeimu, 400-Level Medicine; Yemi Ajiteru, an extra year student; Babatunde Oke, 100-Level Philosophy, and Godfrey Ekpede.
According to a survivor of the attack, Lanre Adeleke (Legacy), who was the then students’ union president, the then vice-chancellor, Wale Omole, was the alleged sponsor of the deadly attack.
They were said to have been killed by Black Axe Confraternity.
While Omole was accused of involvement in the attack, he has repeatedly denied the allegations and also said he was not found wanting by a panel of enquiry set up by the federal government through the Ministry of Education, then headed by Tunde Adeniran, a professor
