Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday after being detained following an alleged attempt to bribe EFCC officials. The controversial social media personality was stopped at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday night while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight with plans to travel to London.
Bobrisky shared news of his arrest on social media, claiming he was injured during the incident, posting, “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Following his detention, he was flown to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding alleged bribery within the commission. A voice note circulated by social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Bobrisky had paid EFCC officials N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges.
According to reports, Bobrisky was granted bail late on Friday night and subsequently released. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed his release but declined to provide further details.
A source familiar with the investigation told Sunday PUNCH that Bobrisky denied all bribery allegations in his statement, challenging VeryDarkMan to produce evidence. “He denied giving any bribe to EFCC officials to drop charges,” the source said. “He stated that no one requested money from him, and he did not give any.”
