The socio-cultural organization Afenifere has voiced concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of lacking empathy toward the hardships faced by Nigerians.
At a recent meeting held at the home of its leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, Afenifere condemned the administration for appearing disconnected from the “agony and distressing state of the nation” that citizens are currently experiencing.
In a communique issued by Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and Deputy Secretary-General, Alade Rotimi-John, the group pointed to widespread hardship, persistent insecurity, and crippling hunger impacting many Nigerians. The organization criticized recent government policies, particularly the increase in fuel prices, which they believe has worsened the public’s struggles.
Afenifere also highlighted the troubling lack of a clear action plan from the Tinubu administration to address these urgent issues. The group urged the government to adopt more compassionate and effective measures to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The communique stated, “Afenifere reviewed the ongoing distressing state of the nation’s social and economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The meeting noted that the distressing situation is marked by widespread hardship, unrelenting insecurity, and debilitating hunger.”
Olaitan added, “The meeting observed a lack of official empathy toward the people’s suffering and a persistent policy direction seemingly intended to worsen their plight, such as the continuous hike in fuel prices. Afenifere noted the government’s seemingly casual approach to governance, reflected in the absence of any clear or decisive program.”
