The kidnapped Zonal Coordinator for the Benin Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Monday Lewis Igbafen, has escaped from his captors less than 24 hours after being abducted.
It was gathered that Professor Igbafen was abducted by armed men on Saturday, September 28, 2024, around 10pm while arriving at his home.
Prof Igbafen, who is a lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma in Edo State, was said to have escaped from his captors late Sunday night.
Igbafen, who is the former chairman of AAU-ASUU was reportedly blindfolded and taken to a forest in the Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State by his abductors.
Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, who also confirmed Igbafen’s escape, said, “The Command is aware of the situation. We are actively pursuing the suspects to ensure they are brought to justice.”
