Hassan Faruk, a teenager, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a Nokia phone valued at N120,000 in Jos, Plateau State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the teenager was convicted and sentenced on Monday by Jos Area Court.
The court gave the teenager an option to pay a fine of N50,000 fine.
Faruk, 18, was tried before Judge Shawomi Bokkos.
The prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Mr Umar Isa, reported the case at the Angwan Rogo Police Station on May 15.
Mr Gokwat said the convict trespassed into the complainant’s room and stole his phone valued at N120,000.
He said during the police investigation, the convict confessed to having committed the offence and that the phone was recovered from him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
